Better Off Dead

Sometimes
I
wonder,

Is
this all
there is?

Just
boredom,
emptiness

And your
endless
bullshit?

I couldn’t
think of
anything
nicer,

Than to be
somewhere
else
instead.

Far from
all the
anxiety
and pain,

And your
words
plaguing
my head.

  1. That’s an interesting contrast that shows how the mind can’t always be trusted: it’s boredom and emptiness that’s then revisited as anxiety and pain. That contrast of the internal pain from external sources but also the pain from the constant barrage inside also adds to it.

You’re good at drawing that stuff out in your writing. I also know you’re a ridiculously talented poet who works things out through your words. If that ever happens not to be the case then don’t be a stranger, friend.

    1. Once again your ability to critique my writing never ceases to amaze me. You find meaning in my words that even I don’t see when writing them. I love that you take the time to offer such inciteful feedback.

You’re right. Writing and posting here is such a positive outlet for me – even if I what I post can worry others at times. That’s certainly not intentional.

It has been a difficult week for me, which has been reflected in more recent peices, but knowing I have support from yourself, and others besides here, helps immeasurably.

I’m not sure I can agree about the ‘ridiculously talented’ part – but I thank you for trying to shed some light in these more darker days for me.

      I’ll be OK 🖤🖤

      1. I’d go with ridiculously talented. You clearly have a natural ability. There’s definitely lots of layers going on in your writing There’s also a great deal of confidence in form in all of your stuff. Plus it always feels very honest and in no way contrived as poetry can often end up seeming. You’re a talented and creative writer and you deserve the praise you get!

      2. Okay, fine. We’ll have to settle on the fact that you’re skilled beyond measure when it comes to poetry.

And I trust you. I just want to reiterate it whenever possible. I go through small slumps and I forget that there are people there to help. You no doubt face far worse obstacles than me. I don’t want anyone to forget.

  2. You both really are far too kind to me, but I’ll take the compliments with the intention they are given 😊

But please don’t forget, not only are you such compassionate people, you are talented and inspiring writers yourselves!

I take heart from your posts too as much as anything else 🖤🖤

  3. Your writings are brief yet powerful. None of this drawn out Shakespearean word salad, just a few solid lines that capture the heart and the mind. I believe it is within that simplicity where your writings popularity can be found.

    1. Thank you so much. Your words are very kind and mean a lot to someone like me.

To be fair, as much as I enjoy reading it, I’m just no good at writing more floral, flowic poetry that some writers excel at here. I just don’t have the imagination for it.

I’m much more at home in the short, sharp and snappy style of poetry. And the odd profanity thrown in for good measure also helps!

I’ve no idea what makes my rambling popular with others – I’m just lucky to have found an outlet to write and that folks here have been extremely supportive 😁🖤

  4. Living on this world can weigh us down so much. I think at some point we all relate to this poem. Sometimes it seems we are better of not living at all. But I promise, that isn’t the case. Revelation 21:4 says, “He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
