A Modern Day Soliloquy

To text,

Or not to text:

That is the question:

Whether ’tis best just to disappear or perhaps

Continue this same conversation with you,

On a face to face and in person basis,

And by doing so end us.

  1. Holy crap. You mean you feel that by not keeping up the text chat, and preferring to chat only in person, that it’ll be a deal-breaker?

That’s how I’ve often felt myself, anyway. Last year I came upon the realisation, that all of that nonsensical texting advice I’d ever received, was irrelevant to me in the first place, and that I should just stick to my instincts, because trying to force myself into that way of being only did an injustice to myself, as well as stressed me out, which defeats the whole purpose of dating being a fun and romantic thing!

    1. I think I was thinking about that worry of a person feeling let down when they meet someone in person who was actually quite interesting when chatting from behind a screen…

      Or something lol 😂🖤

      1. Ohhh! I assure you you wouldn’t have that problem if you met me 😂.

For some reason I thought I saw ‘dating’ in the tags, lmao. I think I just saw ‘Hamlet’ and thought of romantic Shakespeare shit. Except that one’s not as romantic :P.

I knew I was just going off on one irrelevantly but couldn’t help myself 🤣.

  2. That’s definitely a soliloquy for the modern era but with emotions that go back generations before the Bard.

It’s also refreshing to see a parody of the soliloquy that takes its original context into account and goes beyond the first few words. Great work!

    1. Thank you my friend! 👍

I worked quite hard to keep to the original form and syllable count too, although I couldn’t quite do the whole piece so stopped after the first few lines!! 😂🖤

  3. If I dated. I would be poorly at it. I like the coffee dates and seeing the face of another. Today world, forgot. To know someone, the long walks, the long talks and common interests. Thank you dear poet for sharing the amazing poetry.
