To be fair, optimism by definition is kind of being out of touch/irrational. It’s just the better choice over facing the full-on harshness of reality all the time :).

I think, to some degree, insanity is not following the rabbit down the trail of reason. But more than that, the longer we don’t hold to true principles, the longer we’re headed in the wrong direction.
