Fate

I wish I’d never met you.

Life would be easier then.

If I’d never met you

I wouldn’t have to forget you.

And I would be happier then.

If He Goes, I Go

When he asked if she was OK, she smiled and nodded her head.

She didn’t have the heart to tell him she wished that she was dead.

When he brushed the tears from her eyes, she winced and turned away.

She didn’t have the heart to tell him she wished that he could stay.

When he held her for the last time, she knew she would get her wish.

She didn’t have the heart to tell him she’d already planned for this.

Sometimes

Sometimes it's easy to think about you.
Our memories overwhelm me,
I feel the touch of your hand in mine,
and my eyes sparkle with joyous delight.

Sometimes I can't think about you at all.
My brain shuts off the pathway to the pain,
My lungs stop taking in air,
and my heart, momentarily, stops beating.

Sometimes it's easy to talk about you.
Words fall from my mouth,
stories flow like vintage wine,
and my smile is as wide as the horizon.

Sometimes I can't talk about you at all.
Sentences fail to form in my head,
my voice dries up like a parched riverbed,
and my mouth is clamped like a vice.

Unkept

You said

To me

You’d always

Be true

Yet it’s clear

That forever

Meant fuck all

To you

‘And then you spoke to me and said…’

You spoke to me without being forced.
You said my full name, without being told what it was.
You looked at me.

I was happy just to see you.
Being in the same building as you again sent chills
down my spine and welled tears in my eyes.
I had recognised your presence and then let it go.
Like always.

But you took it further, this time.
You spoke to me without being forced.
You said my full name, without being told what it was.
You looked at me.

I could not believe what was happening.
My foolish response - 'Wow, you know my name' -
swirling in the air around us,
choking me with its embarrassment.
You smiled your vacant smile.
You muttered something and walked away.

Words cannot describe how I felt.
You spoke to me without being forced.
You said my full name, without being told what it was.
You looked at me.

It made it all seem worthwhile.
The years of following you. The years of obsession.
You spoke to me.

I had to get another drink and light a cigarette.
So, I noticed, did you.

When you spoke to me that second time,
I don't think I was present.
I had seen you walking in my direction,
but I had ceased to exist.
You said 'I see you all the time at parties,
but I never get a chance to talk to you'.
I drowned in the ecstasy of your words,
and further still when you said 'See you soon'.

Those three words gave me so much hope.
Hope I never had before.
Not even after the notes...

For the rest of the night I watched you, watching me.
At least I pretended not to watch you,
pretending not to watch me.

But I was so happy.  Elated in fact.
You had spoken to me without being forced.
You said my full name without being told what it was.
You looked at me.

When you left the room, and I watched you go,
you didn't just take your pretty little head with you.
You took a piece of me too.
A piece of me that will be with you always,
and lost to me...
Forever.

A Life Together

There were times when I would tire of it all,

But I don’t have a single regret.

I never once got bored of it all,

Our inescapable duet.

If only I could ask you,
But I never should.

If only I could show you,
But I never would.

If only you could tell me,
But you never should.

If only you could love me,
But you never would.

‘Thank You, But No…’

If this is how life is going to be

Then I wish to play no part.

I have neither the strength nor the desire

To risk another broken heart.

Galaxies

If
I was
to decide

To
leave
this
place

It
would
still
be you

I’d
find

In
any
time or
space

Magnets

What
holds us
together

Is a
deep
connection

That
need
never

Be
in
question

But
whether
or not

It’s
love
or hate

Is very
much
still

Up
for
debate

‘The Hardest Word’

Please
can
you
come
back

She
begged

I’ll
get
down
on my
knees

But
you
told
me
you
didn’t
want me

He
said

So I
thought
you
would be
pleased

Damaged Goods

It
really
isn’t
you,
it’s
me

You
deserve
to be
happy

But
you
won’t
get to
share

In
anything
with
me

But
sadness,
heartache
and
despair

And
untold
misery

Helpless

This grief
is all
consuming

Who knows
when it
will end

As not only
have I lost
my lover

I have
lost my
best friend

Assets

I cannot
wait forever

I just don’t
have the time

Soon enough
I’ll just move on

And take what’s
rightfully mine

Silly Arguments

Fuck
this
shit

She
said

I’m
going
home

I’ll
walk
you

He
said

You
can’t
go alone

I
don’t
need
you

She
said

Why
don’t you
just drop
dead

You’ll be
sorry you
wished for
that

He
said

When
you’re
alone in
our bed

The Bargain

Who knows
when our
time will
come

But I fear
it’s not
just yet

For you
have to
forgive
yourself

And I
have to
forget

Sinderella

Is that
the time,
he said,
I should
get my
things
and leave

Well don’t
let me
keep you,
she said,
for I have
others
to please

Self Loathing

I wish
I could
see in
myself,

She
said,

What you’ve
seen since
our affair
began.

For that
you’d need
to love
yourself,

He
said,

And I
don’t
think
you can.

The Rescuer

We can
leave
together,

He
said,

I promise
I’ll look
after you.

When
will you
grow up,

She
said,

You poor
misguided
fool.

I Reckon I Could

I reckon
I could
manage
today

If I
could
see
your
face
again

I reckon
I could
find
a way

If I
could
hear
your
voice
again

I reckon
I could
try to
be okay

If I
could
hold
your
hand
again

I reckon
I could
probably
stay

If I
could
kiss
your
lips
again

Just Me

Life was
cruel to him

And people
were cruel too

It was only me
who was kind

Me who stuck by
him like glue

I Want More

I’ll no
longer
provide
a distraction

Or a
lens for
your
dissatisfaction

I should
command
much more
attention

For I
deserve
the utmost
adoration

Indebted

Thank
you so
much
for
being
you

Otherwise
I’d still
be wandering
around
without
a clue

Waiting
for
the days
not to
feel
so blue

And
hoping
to find
a love
that’s
true

It’s Over

I love you
with all
my heart

He said

And that
would never
change

I can’t
imagine us
being apart

He said

It would
really be
too strange

I’m sorry
but that’s
not enough

She said

For me
to want
to stay

I know you
will find
it tough

She said

But I
have to
walk away

Misled

You say
it’s not me,
it’s you.

But
you’re
a liar.

And we
both know
that’s true.

Concequences

You said
you wanted
to leave

And I
didn’t beg
you to stay

Now we
both lie to
someone else

And that’s
the price
we pay

Double Take

It’s only
now I
realise
I’ve
played
this all
wrong

And it
actually
should
have
been
you all
along

Without You

Life is
just so
shit
without
you

I’ve got
nothing
left to
hold
on to

If
only
you were
still
here

Then I’d
have
nothing
left
to fear

You Deserve More

I wish you
could see
yourself with a
different view

And know
there are so
many things to
love about you

My only hope
is that she
will see it
again soon too

Then perhaps
you could both
just stop
making do

A Solo Affair

I’m fine
by myself
without
all of
that

Just me
here
alone
in my
own flat

I don’t
need to
feel anyone
else’s
touch

As frankly
I never
really
liked it
much

That Split Second

When I saw you
sleeping there

I couldn’t help
but stop and stare

Probably because
I was drunk too

Although nowhere
near as drunk as you

I had to walk over
and poke the bear

A Risky Business

We really
shouldn’t
do this,
she said,
it’s not
the right
time

It’s now
or never,
he said,
for I’ll
soon be
past my
prime

Trip Wires

If
love is
not what
you say

But
what
you do
instead

Then
you’ve
fucked
up

On
both
counts
mate

So be
careful
where you
tread

That

It’s
just not
right

That you
won’t be
here when
I look
tonight

It’s
just not
fair

That I’ll
reach for
your hand
and it won’t
be there

Forever

My happiness
is fleeting,
she said,
but my pain
is forever

I can’t help
repeating,
he said,
that I’m here
for you whatever

Three Wishes

She stops
and sighs
as he
implores
her to stay

But I don’t
think you can
help me,
she says,
turning away

He looks
and smiles
as he
reaches for
her hand

Just trust
me, he says,
for your
wish is my
command
