If we
could
meet
We’d
drink
a brew
And
maybe
share
A
laugh
or two
Yet we
would
know
At the
end of
the day
What
connects
us both
Is
life’s
decay
"All my life's buried here, heap earth upon it"
If we
could
meet
We’d
drink
a brew
And
maybe
share
A
laugh
or two
Yet we
would
know
At the
end of
the day
What
connects
us both
Is
life’s
decay
Profoundly poignant

Life’s decay? So what connects them is death?

Yeah, in a way I guess.
I wrote it about one of my favourite female poets – Stevie Smith.
I wondered what it would have been like to have a pot of tea with her as I think she was a fascinating character.
I reckoned that although we would’ve had a laugh we’d most likely bond over the darker side of life as we see it.
You should check her out if you’ve not already. She wrote amazing poetry and was / is a huge inspiration to me.
