This is actually a pop song lyric and not my own work.
I take it as a representation of how people are, fundamentally, ‘bright’ or ‘dark’ in character. And how (after a relationship break up potentially) the ‘darker’ character laments the fact that they weren’t ‘bright enough’ to keep the person they loved – so they left – and their own cycle of ‘darkness’ continues.
This is where, as a self confessed music snob, I have to admit to more than just a passing crush on a former boy band member who is (nearly) old enough to be my son!
