It seems to be a universal experience that these things/institutions aren’t anywhere near as helpful as the average person would believeβ who easily puts their confidence in them. And so you can be caught in a terrifying situation between two worldsβ one which isn’t helping you (or worse) and one which believes it should/must be and questions whether you are really asking for or accepting help, when really it becomes an immediate survival challenge on top of whatever you were already experiencing.
Just another reason why I like people to look out for each other moreβ because the ‘safety net’ doesn’t necessarily exist or too often makes things worse. Yet it’s impossible to explain this to anybody who hasn’t experienced it.
Basically centralised assistance isn’t anywhere near as effective as day-to-day, person-to-person community assistance. And this is a source/aggravator of soo many societal and mental health problems.
An unwanted ‘holiday’?
