That summer with you was glorious.
I was young, fearless and eager to learn.
You were older, wiser and willing to teach.
I can still recall that first night. You grabbed my hand and whispered ‘Come with me’.
We sailed past the doormen and into the club. I remember that heady mix of beer in plastic glasses, cigarette smoke and pounding bass lines in darkened alcoves.
We danced all night as those songs played and we lost ourselves in each other.
That summer was twenty two years ago, but it feels like it was yesterday.
Thank You.
For JH.

Love this YLC. I saw your mention of it on a recent blog and had to track it down because it had the same title as a 1979 film starring a young Ray Winstone. I was wondering if there was any connection. I had a yellow vinyl LP soundtrack of the film which was mainly various punk bands from the time but pretty much all of the music was never featured on the film. It had its own composed soundtrack. Some years ago I bought a poor copy on dvd which was probably copied from a VHS tape but just found it’s now on YouTube. Anyways, ramble over. Here’s the link if you’re interested. From memory it’s not the greatest movie ever made but anything from back then is good for me. Best wishes. Col x

Aw, thank you my friend. You’re very kind. I love memories like that. Mine, like yours, are always attached to music in some form or another. I’ve not heard of this film though – will deffo look it up. Sounds like it would be right up my street. Currently on a PIL deep dive with a beer or two… Best get back to it 😉🖤

The words older and wiser reminded me of the song Tolerate It by Taylor Swift which is incredibly sad, and this piece written by you to me seemed like a pre-existing happy backstory of that song.
Thank you for writing this, it’s truly amazing🖤
