Washing your hands
Checking the locks
Labelling your cans
Sorting your socks
You call them all
Your ‘OCD’
But you’ve got no idea
What it really means
All The 8’s
And so it begins
The incessant counting
The overthinking
The fear mounting
That impending doom
Will certainly strike
If I do not get
This pattern right

What happened to good old-fashioned perfectionism? Isn’t that what we used to call those things lol. Or should do anyway.
And of course a person with OCD can have these perfectionist tendencies, alongside and separately to what they’d describe as OCD.
Still too many OCD resources go straight into hand-washing as the first in a list of examples, which strengthens the misconception.

I am glad I don’t experience OCD myself. I learned from some of my clients who suffer OCD that their obsessions can be vastly different, definitely not just the washing hands, locking doors or colour coordinating clothes.
